Third and Fourth Grade Book Clubs Break Records
Our librarians are thrilled to announce EVERY student in the third and fourth grade has joined book club this quarter.
In third grade we are reading two books – Geronimo Stilton and Dolphin Tale.
In fourth grade the “force is with us” as we read Darth Paper Strikes Back. Way to go, third and fourth graders! |

Kindergarten to Pumpkin Farm
The kindergarten class went to the Pumpkin Farm in Clayton on Oct. 13. The 13 children and 7 adults enjoyed learning about pumpkins, saw some farm animals and plants, pretended to milk a cow and had fun picking out their own pumpkin to take home. The children were SO excited to go on their first field trip of the year and are asking what is next! Their favorite activity at the farm was again the maze of hay bales that we did last in the play area. There is something about winding your way around in the dark that is very appealing to Kindergarten kids!

Angel Island Field Trip in 5th Grade
5th Grade has been studying immigration in our American History Class. We started with reading about how immigrants came to our country, then we did research on the immigration story of our own families and how they came to America. We completed the unit by taking a field trip to Angel Island and a toured the immigration station. We listened to stories about immigrants who came through the station and we also toured the housing facilities of the immigrants. Of course, we did see the famous Chinese Poetry carved on the walls. God provided us with beautiful weather. It was a glorious day for all.

Fourth Graders Visit Heather Farm
The fourth graders took a journey back in time when Native Americans lived in California. We went to Heather Farm for a program called Native Plants, Native People. We learned about how Valley Oak acorns were used for food. The students used willow branches to make hoops to practice aiming skills. We heard a legend about how the first Californians thought earthquakes were caused. Finally, we made rope out of the cattail plant. It was great to experience life many years ago in California.

New Look for the Elementary Lunch Area
You may remember the paddle call at last year’s auction, which, thanks to a number of parents generosity, raised $4,500 to improve the lunch area. CCCS elementary students were thrilled to return to school to find a beautiful, updated lunch area.
Over the summer, Mrs. Arbogast and her Girl Scout Troup spent countless hours designing and installing new landscape as part of their requirement for earning their girl scout Silver Award. The project included digging up extremely tough hard rock, moving dirt, plant preparation and laying new bark and sod grass. In addition, Mr. Frank Zablocki, CCCS board member, installed wrap-round fencing to close off the entire area and large shade umbrellas were purchased to protect students from the sun. Elementary students have given the brand new lunch area a big “thumbs-up” approval. |
