Welcome

Sixth Grade Science Camp - A Mountaintop Experience
Mt. Hermon is a Christian conference center nestled in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains. During the week of March 8 – 12, our sixth grade class traveled there to attend Science Camp and were able to experience God's amazing creation as their outdoor classroom. With tall redwoods for walls and a ceiling of starry skies, both days and nights were filled with unique learning opportunities as well as personal challenges that encouraged academic and spiritual growth. The experience each student had at Mt. Hermon will be one to carry with them for many years to come.

Famous American Day
Fifth graders have completed a two-month long research report. Students were required to locate four sources and write a 600-800 page report all about a Famous American of their choice. Students started with note cards, then completed an outline, drew two illustrations, and completed a Work Cited page all in MLA format. We concluded the report process with a Famous American Day, where each student dressed like the person they researched and then gave a 3-5 minute oral report in one of the other elementary classes. It was a fantastic way to learn all about the American History that we study in 5th grade.

Author and Illustrator Susan Gal visits CCCS
Our elementary students were treated to a visit by author and illustrator Susan Gal this month. Gal spoke about the inspiration for her current book "Night Lights", and showed our students a preview of her upcoming book titled "Take Me for a Walk". She also gave our fifth graders some tips about illustrating their Snowman for a project they are working on.

Grandparent’s Day 2009
This years’ Grandparent’s Day was a special day on campus with many grandparents in attendance. After checking in and receiving a gift bag, they attended a program in the multi-purpose room where the elementary classes each performed a special number. The 5th grade band performed for the very first time and did a wonderful job! The program culminated with a flute duet by two eighth grade students.
After the program, grandparents spent about 40 minutes visiting the classrooms and then everyone met at the picnic tables to enjoy lunch together in the beautiful fall weather.
Thanks to all of the parents who helped out with this event and a special thanks to Mrs. Gayle Moussa who served as the chairperson.

Students Shine at Fine Arts Festival

On Friday, May 1, 49 students in fifth through eighth grades participated in the annual Fine Arts Festival held at Central Valley Christian School in Visalia, California. These students were selected to compete in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, speech, and reader’s theatre. In addition, many other students ( in grades 5 – 8) were selected to submit entries in the areas of art and writing.

Not only did CCCS students perform very well that day, they received high ratings in all areas! At our Open House on Thursday, May 14, we hope to showcase many of these student performances in the MPR. You will also be able to view the art and writing entries which will be on display. Please check the schedule that evening for details.
